Max entered the insurance industry as an underwriting trainee. Later, he transferred to a large, national commercial lines insurer as a Commercial Lines Underwriter, and rose to the position of Marketing Manager in the insurer’s Grand Rapids office.

In 1982, Max started the Van Wyk Insurance Agency. Today he serves as Chairman and CEO of Van Wyk Risk & Financial Management, a full service risk management and insurance company. Max is most proud of the staff of professionals that have joined the firm since it was established.

In addition to many industry accomplishments, Max has served as the Chairman of the Better Business Bureau of West Michigan, Chairman of the Grand Rapids Christian Schools Capital Campaign, Chairman of the Kent County Association of Independent Insurance Agents, Chairman of the CNA Grand Rapids PACER panel, and presently serves on the Calvin College Board of Trustees.

Max received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and his MBA in Marketing from Western Michigan University.
